Basil & Berry Smoothie

This simple smoothie works for a quick an easy breakfast, afternoon snack, or even a popsicle.   I will say that it is not very sweet, so if you’re just incorporating smoothies and are looking for a sweeter option, you may want to add a little unfiltered clean apple juice to make it a little more palatable.  I wouldn’t go overboard with the juice as it is a free sugar and can also contribute to yeast, imbalances, etc. This recipe can easily be modified to be used as a base for a smoothie bowl.  If doing so, you will want to cut back the liquid to just over 1 cup.

Ingredients

2 c.        Kale or Spinach (dino kale for lower oxalate)

1 c.        Mango (frozen)

1 c.        Strawberries (frozen)

1 c.        Blueberries (frozen)

1/2        Cucumber (optional)

1 tbsp.   Rosehips (optional)

1 sprig   Basil (small/fresh) (optional)

2 c.         Water (sub 1 c. apple juice for a sweeter smoothie)

Instructions

Add all ingredients into a high-powered blender and blend until smooth.  Serve immediately.

Tidbits

The berries make this smoothie higher in salicylates.  If this is something you’re struggling with, this post may help you.
