Pigs In A Blanket

Okay, throwing this all out here as I make an effort to share how we manage a lower glutamate diet as a lifestyle instead of a “temporary diet.”  At the time of writing this, we’ve been on a very clean low-glutamate diet for almost 7 years. What we are eating today is different from our deepest healing days of using food as medicine. Fall is officially here, and with two “boys” in the house, we have what seems like constant football games on.  Nothing screams football more than pigs-in-a-blanket, so I decided to make our son this [...]

Legit Bread

A couple of years ago, we had removed, umm… pretty much everything, and were searching for a gluten-free, casein-free, grain-free, nut-free, soy-free, additive-free, gum-free bread. After 16 failed attempts at creating my own recipe,  I came across Jennifer of Predominantly Paleo.  Not only did she clearly understand the struggle, but she had also created the perfect Legit Bread Mix, fitting our needs. Her recipe only eggs, honey, olive oil, apple cider vinegar (or lemon), cassava flour, potato starch, psyllium husk powder, potato flour, sea salt, and baking soda.  Now here we are, a couple of years and [...]

Coconut Vegetable Curry

I’ve always loved Indian food, but I never knew how to make it until I discovered a Coconut Curry recipe by Averie Cooks.  With a little work, I adapted this dish to make low glutamate friendly.  Our once favorite store-bought curry dish can now easily be made at home and clean.  This recipe is pretty flexible and can be adapted to fit your specific needs. Working to lower animal protein consumption? We’ve also enjoyed removing the chicken and subbing with chickpeas and zucchini.  Feel free to add or swap the vegetables to fit your family’s needs best. [...]

Breakfast Cookies (GF, EF, DF, SF)

A few years ago one of our incredible Facebook group members, Wendy, shared a version of this recipe.  After seeing her post, I quickly got into the kitchen (because who wouldn’t want a cookie for breakfast) and they were an immediate hit. While I do not know the origin of the original recipe, we’ve adjusted it to fit our needs over time.  While this recipe is gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, casein-free, soy-free, etc. you may want to be cautious overdoing it with nuts as they are high in oxalate, contribute to constipation, etc.  This recipe is very forgiving [...]

Peruvian Inspired Chicken Soup

One of our favorite Peruvian restaurants in Charlotte makes this amazing chicken and rice soup. Unfortunately, pretty sure it’s loaded with MSG because I get a massive headache after eating it.  This was our spin on a healthier version that I often make with leftovers.  It makes for a quick and easy meal on busy school nights.. Serves 4 Nut-free, Casein-free, Gluten-free, Grain-free, Egg-free, Soy-free Ingredients 6 c. Homemade chicken broth (cooked under 3 hrs and no vinegar) 2 c. Shredded chicken (used WF naked organic rotisserie chicken) 2 c. White or Brown Rice (cooked) (optional) [...]
