Did you know that free glutamate (aka MSG) can often be found in some of healthier food options, like jam? It is often found in higher levels in additives like citric acid, pectin, natural flavors, etc.  Not to mention, many conventional jam options are loaded with other inflammatory additives like high fructose corn syrup.   Looking for a quick clean store-bought option? Take a look at this post, where I compare two store-bought options.

Ingredients

10 oz. frozen berries

3 tbsp. water

2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice

1-2 tbsp. sweetener of choice (honey best, maple syrup if desired)

1 tbsp. chia seeds

1/2 c. kale, finely chopped (more or less if tolerated) optional

Looking to incorporate a few herbs?  The ground rosehips and hibiscus are great options to toss in!

Instructions

Over medium/high heat, combine water, lemon juice and 10oz. of fresh or frozen berries of choice. Once warm, add finely chopped kale if desired.  Once kale is tender and well combined, add chia seeds and sweetener of choice. Stir until jam thickens and chia seeds become gelatinous.  Remove from heat, cool and store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
