French Toast

Our transition to REID and working to lower glutamate didn’t mean that we had to remove all “fun foods.” We just learned how to make them healthier and consume them in moderation. This French Toast recipe has become a weekend treat in our home, especially for our little guy. Keep in mind, there are several ways in which you can adapt this recipe to fit your family’s needs best, but the most important thing is to keep ingredients clean. Under tidbits below, you will find clean recipes and products for your bread, milk, and spice options. [...]

Easy Energy Balls

When we first started REID, these energy balls became a staple in our house.  They were easy to travel with, served as a great accompaniment to a smoothie for breakfast, worked in lunchboxes, and also made a nice treat after dinner. With time the recipe morphed because these easy energy balls acted as a great vessel to hide dried herbs in. Please don’t be afraid to adapt this recipe, add new ingredients, and increase the nutritional density of these little treats. […]

Christmas Cinnamon Roll Loaf

There is something about Christmas that always makes me crave gooey cinnamon rolls from my childhood.  After beginning REID, I thought those days were long gone until I found this recipe by Laura Lea Balanced. The first time I made her recipe we were coming off of a 3 year grain-free version of REID and were slowly working to incorporate more grains.  Because of this, I significantly altered her original nut-free recipe by cutting back on the grains, adding almond flour, removing apple cider vinegar/baking powder, increasing baking soda and adding lemon juice to meet our current [...]

Smothered Apple Bowl

It is not uncommon for many REID families to struggle with egg allergies or egg sensitivities.  Because of this, finding easy and tolerated breakfast options can feel overwhelming. Fortunately, a few years ago one of our incredible admins from the REID FB group, Leslie, shared this simple and versatile breakfast/snack idea. This recipe has been a staple in our house ever since. Thank you, Leslie! […]

Breakfast Cookies (GF, EF, DF, SF)

A few years ago one of our incredible REID Facebook group members, Wendy, shared a version of this recipe.  After seeing her post, I quickly got into the kitchen (because who wouldn’t want a cookie for breakfast) and they were an immediate hit. While I do not know the origin of the original recipe, we’ve adjusted it to fit our needs over time.  While this recipe is gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, casein-free, soy-free, etc. you may want to be cautious overdoing it with nuts as they are high in oxalate, contribute to constipation, etc.  This recipe is [...]
